Prince Amukamara: Fun facts about the newest Giant

The Giants lucked into upgrading their pass defense last night, when Nebraska cornerback Prince Amukamara, the consensus second-best defensive back in the draft class, fell to them at pick 19. What’s the deal with the newest Giant?

»For starters, his name is pronounced “ah-MOO-ka-MAR-a.” Say it once, it’s not that hard. (Though Jon Gruden noticeably refrained from trying to sound it out last night.)

»A native of Glendale, Arizona he apparently had never been to New York before last night’s draft at Radio City.

»His family is awesome: His five younger sisters are named Princess, Precious, Promise, Peace and Passionate. (Metro hopes that they’ll all travel in a pack like the girls in “The Fighter.”) His mom was a sprinter in the ’84 Olympics. They dress like this.

»When it comes to on-the-field issues, Amukamara is a physical press corner who struggles with deep speed and backpedaling. Sports Illustrated calls him a “polished cornerback with the ability to shut down opponents on a regular basis,” while Yahoo’s Doug Farrar compares him to Darrelle Revis coming out of college.
