Project Midnight finds its way to massive drug bust

Police arrested 10 people and seized $2.1 million worth of cocaine, $330,000 worth of hashish, and $430,000 in cash following a 12-month joint police investigation by the RCMP, Ottawa Police, the OPP and the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal.

On Thursday, police executed 10 search warrants at Ottawa residences and businesses located on Roswell Avenue, Forest Park Drive, Crestway Drive, Wysteria Lane, Croydon Avenue, Henry Farm Drive, Nepean Street, Ste-Anne, Ambleside Drive and Richmond Road as a part of Project Midnight.

Police laid 68 charges, including conspiracy to traffic controlled substances, possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking controlled substances, participating in a criminal organization and possession of proceeds of crime, against 10 people.

Between Feb. 2009 and Feb. 2010, police seized about 100 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of $10 million that was destined for the streets of Ottawa. Police said the main suppliers of cocaine to the Ottawa group were in Montreal.

The joint investigation began in Feb. 2009.
