Occupy Boston protesters are launching their first print newspaper— “The Boston Occupier.”
According to the group, over 25,000 copies of the grassroots broadsheet are scheduled to be printed and distributed on Friday, Nov. 18 after the group raised more than $8,000 online to launch the project.
The original name of the paper was the “Occupy Boston Globe,” however, at last minute the group changed their name.
“The reason for the paper’s change in name is simple: the Occupier’s staff feels that they cannot and do not want to be associated with another news organization, especially one in the same city,” according to a statement released by the group.
The paper’s staff claim it had nothing to do with potential legal action from the original Boston Globe and use of its name.
“We do not condone the use of our trademark-protected name and logo by any organization,” said Robert Powers, The Boston Globe’s VP of Public Affairs.
There will be two editions of “The Boston Occupier;” a four page color broadsheet distributed city-wide and a daily report distributed within Dewey Square, according to the group’s statement.
