To the surprise of no one, the NDP budget was passed yesterday.
With the government having 30 of 52 seats in the legislature, there was never any doubt about the document’s passage despite both opposition parties voting against it.
The only question mark was former NDP?and now independent MLA Trevor Zinck. In the end, he voted against the budget.
Opposition parties have vocally objected to a two-point increase in the HST that will take effect July 1. The NDP says it is a necessary step to control the deficit, which is projected at $222 million this year.
