Public hearing on soda ban Tuesday

Nearly 50 people have already signed up to voice their opinions on Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposed soda ban, at a public hearing held by the the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Tuesday afternoon.

And on Monday the mayor voiced confidence in his highly controversial ban on soda and sugary drink containers larger than 16 fluid ounces.

“This is an easy battle to win and nobody is going to stop it,” Bloomberg predicted, speaking from inside a health clinic in Alphabet City Monday morning.

Tuesday’s Board of Health hearing is for public comment only on the proposed ban. The meeting will be open to all and will be held on the third floor of 42-09 28th Street in Queens, from 1 to 3 p.m.

“The bottom line is we have to do something or this is going to be a disaster for the health of this city,” said Bloomberg of his proposed ban.
