Race to benefit cancer centre

In 2005, Lynn Leclerc was diagnosed with breast cancer. In early 2006, she had surgery, followed by chemotherapy.?

While Leclerc was fully prepared for her treatment, she was not prepared to see the dozens of people each day waiting for their treatment at the Ottawa Cancer Centre.?

“I hadn’t realized just how many people were affected by cancer,” she said.?

Recently, Leclerc joined CFRA morning host Steve Madley to help launch the MDS Nordion Race Weekend Challenge to help raise funds for the 20/20 Team, which is attempting to raise $20 million in 20 months for the expansion of the Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre.

Last year, the Race Weekend Challenge raised more than $508,000 for the Ottawa Hospital.?

Based on early registration, race weekend general manager Jim Robinson said they are anticipating 35,000 runners will take part in the various events commemorating the race’s 35th year.
