Popular reusable shopping bags commonly sold at Walgreens, Rite-Aid and CVS contain high levels of lead, according to a study released by TEI Analytical. In September, Wegmans announced it will replaceg 725,000 reusable shopping bags sold in their stores that have higher-than-acceptable lead levels. The paint on lead-filled bags can flake off onto fruits and vegetables, said Sen. Charles Schumer, who demands a federal investigation into the bags.
