Record stands after this weekend’s MacPass Mile

Matt Lincoln cruised to a seven-second victory in the MacPass Mile on Sunday on the Macdonald Bridge.

The time fell six seconds short of the seven-year-old event record of 4:02 — set in 2002 by Jamie Blanchard — but was comfortably ahead of second-place finisher Adam Kellar.

Coming into the event, Lincoln, from Scarborough, Ont., had a personal-best time of 3:59 in the flat mile.

Halifax’s Robbie Kitz was the top local finisher, finding the podium in third with a time of 4:17.

Jessica O’Connell, a Calgary native who attends West Virginia University, won the women’s mile in 4:48, a full 10 seconds ahead of second-place Gina Stewart of Antigonish.

It was the second bridge win for O’Connell, who also earned top prize in 2006. The women’s record is 4:40.

In the youth runs, it was juvenile-aged Bryden Tate winning the boys race by a 25-second margin in a speedy 4:30. Bantam-aged Ellen Taggart had the best girls time in 5:14.
