Red Bulls continue to be the interview bomb kings

HARRISON, N.J. – The New York Red Bulls are at it again, interview-bombing media scrums. This time, it was a little brotherly love following their 3-0 win over Antigua GFC on Wednesday night in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Shaun Wright-Phillips started the match against Guatemala’s reigning champions and helped set-up his team’s first goal in the 15th minute. After the match he addressed the media in the ‘mixed zone’ outside the locker room his brother Bradley Wright-Phillips wandered behind him and listened.

Then he took a voice recorder offered to him and patiently waited. When brother Shaun got done with his quotes it was time for a height joke. Shaun is…well…he will never be confused for being a target striker.

Last week midfielder Felipe interview-bombed a session with defender Ronald Zubar, including wiping off his head as he discussed his header in the 4-1 win over New York City F.C. a couple days before.

Like Felip, Bradley took a light-hearted line of questioning.

“What’s it like being 5’5?” Bradley asked his surprised brother.

The media chuckled around him. But brother Shaun, a former English international with a storied career at clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City, didn’t laugh. Instead he had the perfect answer.

“It’s magnificent, small things are the best,” Shaun said.

Meanwhile this past Sunday Bradley scored No. 63 goal as a member of the Red Bulls, making him the all-time scorer in franchise history. He surpassed club legend Juan Pablo Angel with the goal, scored in the final minutes of a 2-2 result at the Chicago Fire.
