They’re ba-ack.
The iconic red Olympic mittens, which sold out faster than staff could re-stock them during the 2010 Games, have returned to stores across Canada — but with a design twist.
The souvenirs are still $10 but this time feature a white maple leaf that wraps around each hand, with the word Canada written on the cuff.
More than 3.3-million pairs of the first version of the mittens were sold last spring. Oprah Winfrey even handed out pairs to her studio audience at the time.
Red Mitten Ambassador and rower Adam Kreek, who won gold at the 2008 Summer Games, said people can register their mittens online at hbc.com/redmittens and enter to win a trip to the 2012 Games in London.
“The energy of an Olympic city is electric,” Kreek said. “If you missed out on Vancouver, or you want more of that incomparable Olympic energy you experienced, here is your chance.”
Proceeds from the sale of the mitts benefit the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
They can be bought at the Bay, Zellers and Home Outfitters.
