Red Sox close City of Palms Park with a tie

The Red Sox closed the home portion of their spring training schedule with yesterday’s 1-1 tie against Tampa Bay.

They wrapped up an era in the team’s exhibition history, too.

The game was Boston’s last at City of Palms Park, their spring home in Fort Myers, Fla., since 1993. The team will remain in Lee County, but will play its “home” Grapefruit League games at the new JetBlue Park starting next season.

“We’re so appreciative all of the support and the new state of the art complex,” manager Terry Francona said to the crowd prior to the game. “We appreciate it so much and we’re glad we get to stay here for the next 30 years.”

The Sox finish this year’s exhibition slate tonight against the Astros at Minute Maid Park (8:05 p.m., NESN). The regular season starts Friday at Texas.
