Red Sox Manager John Farrell announced that he was diagnosed with stage 1 Lymphoma Friday afternoon at a press conference at Fenway Park.

Doctors found the cancer while performing a hernia surgery in Detroit on Monday.

Farrell said that the cancer was localized and is highly curable. He praised the Red Sox organization and announced he would start treatment at Mass. General Hospital next week. He will leave team in the hands of Torey Lovullo while he undergoes chemotherapy for the next nine weeks.

Doctors found and removed the cancerous mass during the hernia surgery.
