Red Sox: Optimism about landing John Farrell

The wish of most Red Sox fans is that former Boston pitching coach and current manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, John Farrell, somehow finds his way to Fenway Park in the coming month or so.

Farrell, the most likely candidate to replace Bobby Valentine if he is dismissed, is under contract with Toronto through 2013.

There was optimism yesterday, however, that the Red Sox could eventually work out a deal with the Blue Jays to land the 50-year-old disciplinarian with former Mets general manager Jim Duquette stating that there is a “disconnect” between Farrell and Toronto general manager Alex Anthopoulous.

Duquette, who discussed Farrell’s future on WEEI’s “Mut and Merloni” show, also talked about how Valentine is unlikely to keep quiet on his way out the door if he is, indeed, fired.

“There was some subtle comments that would come out in the press (after being fired in New York) and I’ll think you’ll see some of that stuff,” Duquette said.
