David Price threw eight shutout innings, B.J. Upton and Evan Longoria homered and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Red Sox 4-0 yesterday, keeping Boston in second place in the AL East.
The loss dropped the Sox (74-48) a full game behind the Yankees going into New York’s late game last night.
Boston is at Kansas City tonight. They should have some offense to spare — after all, they didn’t use any of it yesterday.

Price was brilliant in eight innings of three-hit ball. Kyle Farnsworth finished the Sox off with a perfect ninth.
John Lackey was decent on the mound for Boston, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Johnny Damon scored the eventual game-winning run in the first, coming home on a groundout.
Upton and Longoria added insurance with homers in the fourth and fifth, and Ben Zobrist plated a run in the seventh.
