Amber Bowerman’s memory will live on at the First Annual Sugarbowl Fundraiser on Saturday.
Lawn bowling was one of Bowerman’s favourite activities so the Amber Webb-Bowerman Memorial Foundation thought it was fitting to organize a tournament in honour of the Calgary journalist, who was tragically killed in a Dalhousie multiple murder-suicide in May of 2008.
“We just want to have some fun, raise some money and just celebrate Amber’s life in a way that she would have enjoyed,” said Colleen Seto, secretary of the foundation’s board.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club with registration and free lessons.
“There’s no skill necessary in terms of whether they’ve played before,” said Seto, noting the event will feature a silent auction with donated items up for grabs.
People can register as singles, couples or teams of four and entry fee is $50 per person. To register or donate items for the silent auction, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Proceeds will go to creating a scholarship endowment fund at SAIT.
“We basically want to support students who have similar aspirations as to what Amber had to pursue their dreams since hers were cut short,” Seto said.
