The Flyers are going to honor “Mr. Playoffs” aka Danny Briere before Tuesday’s game against the Sabres in what is a fitting tribute for one of the more clutch players in team history.
After playing 17 seasons in the NHL, including six with the Flyers, Briere announced his retirement late in the summer.
While he enjoyed a distinguished career with 696 points in 973 games with the Coyotes, Sabres, Flyers, Canadiens and Avalanche, Briere will always be remembered in this town for his heroics in the postseason. When then the calendar flipped to April, May and June, it brought out the best in Briere, who signed with the Flyers in 2007. In 124 playoff games, Briere had 116 points and set a Flyers record with 12 goals and 18 assists during the team’s magical ride to the Stanley Cup final in 2010.
If the Flyers follow the same script from Kimmo Timonen’s Retirement night a couple weeks ago, expect a stirring highlight video of Briere’s career and for Briere to conduct a ceremonial puck drop between the captains of each team. Throughout the game, fans will likely watch tributes from former teammates and Flyers officials on the Arenavision. Although he had countless highlights during his career, here are some of the biggest with the Flyers.
