The Miami Dolphins, winless through their first five games this season, have engaged in trade discussions with other teams about running back Kenyan Drake, NFL Network reported Thursday.

Sources close to the situation told the network’s Ian Rapoport that Miami would consider a deal if the right offer came along for Drake, who is playing out the final season of his original rookie contract.

Drake and the Dolphins reportedly spoke over the summer about a possible contract extension, but the two sides have not talked about a new contract in several weeks as the team has gotten off to a difficult start.

The 25-year-old Drake leads the Dolphins in rushing (41 carries, 153 yards) and receptions (19 catches, 137 yards), although his 3.7 yards per carry would mark a career low for the fourth-year veteran.

In his three-plus seasons, Drake has run for 1,511 yards with nine rushing scores while also posting 113 receptions for 899 receiving yards and six TD catches. The former 2016 third-round pick’s nine total touchdowns (four rushing, five receiving) led the Dolphins in 2018.

The 0-5 Dolphins, under first-year head coach Brian Flores, are one of two NFL teams without a win this season, along with the 0-6 Cincinnati Bengals. Since the start of the calendar year, Miami has dealt several veteran players as part of its rebuilding plan — including quarterback Ryan Tannehill, tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receiver Kenny Stills, defensive end Robert Quinn, linebacker Kiko Alonso and cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick.
