Mayor-elect Marty Walsh’s team has planned for massive crowds on the day the Dorchester state representative becomes Boston’s next mayor, scheduling the swearing-in at Boston College’s Conte Forum and a party later that night at the Hynes Convention Center.

But one person who won’t be attending those events is Walsh’s predecessor: Mayor Thomas Menino.

Menino replied “No” when asked by a reporter if he would be involved Walsh’s swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 6, according to the Globe.

“It’s Marty Walsh’s day. It’s not Tom Menino’s day,” Menino said, according to the report.

Menino’s spokeswoman later said that Menino would be leaving on a long-planned vacation that day and that he asked Walsh to meet with him earlier on Jan. 6 to hand over the reins.

Walsh is replacing Menino who served as Boston’s mayor for 20 years and is the city’s longest-serving mayor.
