­Dave Lieberman host and chef of the Food Network’s Good Deal with Dave Lieberman, airing Saturday and Sunday afternoon. While at Yale University, he produced A: local access cooking show, Campus Cuisine and opened his own campus catering service. His big break came when he was featured in The New York Times Dining In section. Shortly after, he landed his first book deal, Young and Hungry: Making the Most of Fresh and Affordable Food (Hyperion Books).

Q: What is your fondest memory from your family kitchen?

A: Sitting in the kitchen watching my dad cook dinner. That is where my love of food began.

Q: What kitchen aromA: brings back fond memories?

A: The smell of chicken soup.

Q: Who is your favourite cook?

A: Jacques Pepin (chef, author of 24 cookbooks, cooking teacher) because he knows exactly who he is and doesn’t try to be anyone else.

Q: What is your favourite food to cook?

A: I love to cook pasta.

Q: Do you use cookbooks?

A: I like looking at the pictures but I can’t follow other people’s recipes.

Q: How did the first meal you prepared turn out?

A: Horrible! I was seven and tried to make something I saw on television.

Q: What kitchen gadget can’t you live without?

A: A: whisk. I’m obsessed with them!

Q: What rituals from your background involving food do you partake in?

A: I love making brisket, the ultimate Jewish American dish.
