The driver allegedlyresponsible for a runaway Red Line train last week has now been suspended for 30 days without pay, reports said.

Tuesday’s decision was made following an interview and disciplinary hearing that morning, NECN reported.

David Vazquez, of Canton, could still face termination over the Dec. 10 incident, according to WCBV.

An investigation alleges that Vasquez failed to secure a brake on the train before it pulled away with about 50 passengers on board. No one was injured.

Vazquez’s lawyer, according to WCBV, denies that he wrapped a cord around the controls before exiting the train because of signal problems.

“To imagine that he would, you know, wrap a cord around the only safety feature that would keep him safe around that train is preposterous,” his lawyer Phil Gordon said. “It could very well be that Mr. Vazquez actually deployed those brakes. It could very well be that they failed.”
