School bus, commuter bus crash in New Jersey

A mini school bus and a commuter bus crashed on Route 9 in New Jersey around 8 a.m. this morning, according to video reports from Fox.

The Academy commuter bus crashed into a tree, and video footage of the scene of the accident showed the tree sticking out of the roof of the front of the bus, where it appeared to have punctured the front of the vehicle. Fire fighters seemed to be focusing their efforts on dealing with the tree and the front of the bus.

Fox reported a medevac helicopter was on its way to the scene, as well as reports of a serious head injury. No count has been given for the number of injured, though initial reports stated 16.

There were no children on board the school bus at the time of the crash. The driver suffered a minor leg injury, and an aide sustained lacerations.

The school bus had turned over onto his side and landed on top of a transformer, prompting concerns from the authorities that gas leaking from the bus could potentially cause a fire or an explosion.
