School bus union and companies to meet today

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has organized a meeting between the city’s yellow school bus drivers and the bus companies, CBS reported, in an effort to end the strike that began on Wednesday, January 16.

The bus drivers went on strike after Bloomberg refused their demand for job guarantees in a new bid for contracts the city released.

The city’s refusal is based on an earlier Court of Appeals decision regarding a bid for contracts for pre-kindergarten bus routes that ruled mandating such job guarantees are illegal.

The Bloomberg administration insists that the dispute is an issue to be resolved between the union and their employers.
