This Saturday, the summer program begins for SchoolFood NYC, an operation of the Department of Education. The program provides free lunch and breakfast for anyone under 18 years old. Meals will be available at libraries, schools, NYCHA locations, pools, parks and even food trucks. These trucks will be around several areas, including the Flushing Meadow Park Zoo parking lot and Orchard Beach in the Bronx.

The program is designed to fill the needs of children who would otherwise receive breakfast and lunch at school, but cannot during summer vacation.

Last year, the summer meal program served a record-breaking 8 million meals at roughly 1,000 locations. SchoolFood NYC partners with non-profits like CityHarvest and Share Our Strength among others to provide healthy options and reach more children.

Summer meals are served through Sept. 4th. Receiving a meal requires no ID, registration or other documents. To find locations, try the SchoolFood Mobile app, text “NYCMeals” to 877-877, or visit SchoolFood NYC.
