Search for missing Jodi Henrickson continues on Bowen Island

RCMP denied reports that the active search for a missing Squamish teen had ended Thursday and stressed that they were continuing the hunt for Jodi Henrickson, whom they believe is still on Bowen Island.

“We’re still working hard, furious and fast,” said Cpl. Dave Ritchie, an RCMP spokesman in Squamish. “We want to find Jodi and get her home.”

Henrickson, 17, went missing the morning of June 20 after attending a house party on the island. She was last seen by a former boyfriend and was reported missing to the police on June 24.

On Canada Day – the 11th day since her disappearance – RCMP, alongside searchers from North Shore Rescue, scoured the Scarboro and Eagle Cliff areas on Bowen Island.

Ritchie said there was some confusion that the conclusion of that ground search meant police had stopped looking for her.

“We’ve done multiple searches,” said Cpl. Dave Ritchie, a spokesman for RCMP in Squamish. “We base the searches on evidence, clues, tips, interviews. It’s not a blanket search of Bowen Island, and it hasn’t been.”

He said most of their efforts were on the island, but added that investigators had followed leads as far a field as Calgary.

Jodi’s older brother, Rob Henrickson, 19, said Thursday the dearth of new information was tough for the family.

He described his sister as “an outgoing, active social person who loves being around friends.”
