Three people, including brothers from Gatineau, were killed in two crashes in south Ottawa and the Ottawa Valley on Thursday morning.
Two men died after their car collided with an SUV at the intersection of Albion and Lester roads in the city’s south end at around 6:40 a.m.
Following an investigation, police said a Honda Civic was travelling eastbound on Lester Road when the driver lost control of his vehicle and rotated into the path of a westbound Jeep Grand Cherokee and was T-boned.
Ottawa paramedics arrived to find two male occupants in the Civic. They pronounced the 25-year-old male passenger deceased at the scene and rushed the driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, to the Ottawa hospital’s trauma centre with multi-system injuries, said Ottawa paramedic spokesman J.P. Trottier.
“He died shortly after arrival,” Trottier said.
The deceased were brothers from Gatineau, said Ottawa police Const. J.P. Vincelette.
Paramedics also treated the two occupants of the SUV for injuries, Trottier said.
A 47-year-old woman suffered chest and lower-leg injuries while a 50-year-old man suffered minor chest injuries. They were taken to hospital, where they are in stable condition.
The Ottawa police collision investigation unit remained on scene until Thursday afternoon, and Vincelette said they have ruled out alcohol as a factor.
Over in the Ottawa Valley at around the same time, a man was killed after his car collided with a tractor-trailer near Pembroke.
The collision occurred just after 7 a.m. on Highway 17 between Whitewater and Greenwood roads. The area was closed to traffic for several hours while police investigated.
Paramedics here have seen a few fatal and serious collisions in the past month, said Trottier.
Paramedics are advising people to adjust their driving to the weather and road conditions.
