Sex trade won’t grow: Report

It’s a myth that the 2010 Olympic Games will lead to an increase in sex trafficking, according to a new study released on Thursday.

Instead, the major concern involving Vancouver’s sex workers is that street closures and heavy security will force them to move to more unsafe places, said the report commissioned by the Sex Industry Worker Safety Action Group.

Karen Mirsky of Pivot Legal Society said Vancouver’s sex workers are key assets to the police as they know the community best and can provide information about trafficking.

The study was carried out with a grant from the provincial government and Vancouver police support.
