‘Showtime’ deferred as MTA ads shame subway performers

A new series of subway etiquette notices began making the rounds this week in trains around the city.

Besides the much-discussed “man-spreading” campaign to shame individuals who might take up too much space while seated, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority also has its sights set on subway performers.

DNAinfo first reported on the new ads.

The groups of teens who flock to moving subway trains to ask “what time is it?” before launching into aerobatic maneuvers are shamed in the newest ad, showing a red-colored figure deftly hanging in a horizontal position from a pole.

“Poles are for your safety, not your latest routine,” the placard says. “Hold the pole, not our attention. A subway car is no place for showtime.”

Other ads in the campaign announced in late December also ask riders to refrain from clipping nails and hogging the poles while riding subways.
