For singer John McDermott, the Christmas season starts in early November — and this year, it’s going to stretch far into the new year.
McDermott, who has been coming to Ottawa “for 16 years, without missing a year,” performs at Centrepointe Theatre Sunday as a part of a two-month tour.
In the meantime, “I get my Christmas shopping done on the road,” he said.
Christmas will make an encore for the Scottish-born Toronto resident this year, when he begins recording his new Christmas album in January.
“We’ll still be in the mood, and we’re working on that stuff all through Christmas holiday, so it’ll be fresh in our minds.”
But in between touring and recording, McDermott will be spending time with family — a subject close to his heart and figures prominently in his music.
“We don’t really see each other over the year,” said McDermott, who is one of 12 children.
