Six arrested after drugs hidden in fruit: RCMP

TORONTO – Six southern Ontario residents have been charged after drugs were found in fruit shipments in New Brunswick and Windsor, Ont.

The RCMP says the investigation started when border officials seized a marine container in Saint John, N.B., last August and found 19 kilograms of cocaine in hollowed out pineapples.

After a four month long investigation, officers at the Windsor-Detroit border intercepted two trucks each carrying 115 kilograms of marijuana in a shipment of watermelon.

The Mounties say the suspects have ties to Jamaica, Costa Rica and the U.S.

Four of those charged are from the Toronto area, one from Keswick and the other from St. Catharines. They were due in a Toronto court today.

Warrants have been issued for more people.
