Police raided homes across Nova Scotia yesterday, arresting six metro men over child porn accusations as part of a nation-wide Internet sex abuse sweep.
Members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit searched nine residences: seven in HRM, one in Mount Uniacke and one in Kentville. Six men aged 18 to 50 were arrested and computers seized.
Four of the men were released but will later appear in court to face charges of possession, accessing and distribution of child pornography. Two men were released without charge. Police wouldn’t say where the men charged were from.
Earlier in the week, RCMP arrested a 19-year-old man in North Sydney and a 25-year-old man from Westville, Pictou Co., as part of the same operation.
Police don’t suspect any of the men of having inappropriate contact with children in person.
But “these on-line images and videos contain real victims; real children,” said RCMP Superintendent John Bilinski.
Across Canada, Operation Salvo saw 57 people arrested and charged with offences including sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing, making and distributing child pornography.
