In a move to give viewers the opportunity to connect more intimately with the Vancouver-shot skein Robson Arms, as much as $12,000 in free rent is being given away as part of a promotional campaign for the upcoming third season of the show. The promotion kicked off Monday with the episode Robson Arms Rent Control and an online tie-in game in which Canadians can play to win rent or mortgage payments for one year. The game, available online at robsonarms.ctv.ca until June 15, involves helping TV character Bobbi (Gabrielle Miller) find rent money so she doesn’t get evicted.
Rosenbaum departs Smallville: Actor Michael Rosenbaum, who has played Lex Luthor for the past seven seasons on Smallville, is leaving the series. “It is time for me to start the next chapter of my life and career,” Rosenbaum said in a statement. “I hope that I gave you some enjoyment over the years, and that you found my portrayal of Lex Luthor to be satisfying.” Rosenbaum will be replaced in the show by two new villains, one of which is said to be Doomsday, the colossal baddie responsible for killing Superman in 1992’s record-selling Death Of Superman issue of the DC Comic.
Boll vs. Bay: It seems German film director Uwe Boll — who has enjoyed a career making films here in Vancouver for the past several years — has challenged Transformer’s director Michael Bay to a boxing match to settle their differences after an Internet war of words erupted between the two. The exchange began after the much-maligned Postal director vowed to quit making movies if one million people signed an online petition asking him to do so. Not surprisingly, Boll reacted furiously upon learning that movie fans were flocking to the petition, and posted an online rant in which he attacked not only Bay, but fellow directors Eli Roth and George Clooney. Bay responded on his blog, writing, “I find people who rant like that — calling s**t about both me, and George Clooney — comes from someone screaming because he is not being heard. He is obviously a sad being. When you ask ‘do I care?’ Not in the slightest.”
It’s not the first time Boll has challenged his detractors to don gloves and step in the ring with him, of course; in 2006 the part time pugilist boxed film critics who trashed his movies, handily defeating each challenger.
