Son of NDP cabinet minister dies

The son of a rookie NDP cabinet minister has died.

Ramona Jennex’s son, 21-year-old Fraser Williams, died Sunday from his injuries suffered in a car crash June 20 in Minto, N.B.

The day before the accident Jennex, the MLA for King’s South, was named minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.

On her Facebook page late Sunday, Jennex wrote Fraser Williams December 10, 1987 to June 28, 2009. On Saturday, Jennex wrote doctors weren’t optimistic about her son’s chances, but “I remain optimistic. I ask for your prayers and positive thoughts.”

Premier Darrell Dexter offered his condolences Monday.

“I want to express my sympathy for Ramona and her family at this extremely difficult time,”

Dexter said in a release. “I know Nova Scotians share my support and hope that she and her family will get the privacy they need in the days ahead.”

Williams was driving on Northside Drive in Minto with two others when the car he was driving crashed. Williams was thrown from the vehicle was eventually taken to Saint John Regional Hospital with a head trauma injury.

Deputy Premier Frank Corbett is taking over Jennex’s duties temporarily.
