Song Therapy: Hard to hold a candle in a cold November rain? Obvi!

You know how a few years ago they made those albums for hip parents to play for their babies, where it was all their favorite punk songs in lullaby form? That’s kind of what’s going on here with this bossa nova version of the Guns ‘N Roses classic, “November Rain.”

The thing is, if you just put this on at your party … Actually, let me backtrack a little: If

you listen to this and deem in suitable for your parties, then you also need need need to put this song on at your next party! Anyway, if this is the kind of thing you can get away with playing at your party, nobody will have any idea it’s a GnR tune! Just like your baby won’t have any idea he or she is goo-goo gaga-ing to the gabba gabba hey of the Ramones.

But this GnR cover tune is probably most suitable for a late night game of Guess the Cover, where the first person who figures out what song it is wins.

The only reason I’m posting this one today is that today is November 1st, and I was thinking about the line, “It’s hard to hold a candle in a cold November rain.”

And I know it’s a metaphor of sorts, with the whole “hold a candle” thing, but it’s such a dumb metaphor! I mean, duh! Of course if you hold a candle in a cold November rain it’s going to go out!

But maybe Axl was talking about the weird shifting weight properties of candles themselves? Do they get heavier with water and colder temperatures? Discuss! At your next party!
