It’s been a long and difficult road, but the Sons of Serendip have made it to the final round on NBC’s summer talent show, “America’s Got Talent.” Lead vocalist Micah Christian is from Randolph, and was responsible for forming the the group, which is a quartet featuring a harpist, a pianist and a cellist. We checked in with them ahead of their final performance to see what their plans are, and how they think they can win.
How would you describe the atmosphere backstage as you head towards the final round?
The contestants are all working very hard, and at times are feeling the pressure because it is the finale, but everyone is still very positive and excited about the upcoming show.
What do you think the group has that helped it advance this far in the competition?
We think that we made it this far because we are unique. Our sound is different because of the instruments that we play and the arrangements that we create.
What will it take to win?
Because all of the other contestants are so talented, and there are many musical acts, a lot of it will come down to song choice and making sure that we give the best performance that we can. The rest will be up to America.
What made the group decide to compete in the first place?
Micah had the idea when he heard about “America’s Got Talent” auditions. He had always wanted to work with Cordaro, Kendall, and Mason, and he saw this as a great opportunity to see what they would be capable of as a group.
What does the future hold for the band?
That is something that we are going to figure out step-by-step, but we plan to stay together in hopes to build a career in music.
What will you take away from the experience?
Sometimes by taking risks, such as these, you may discover what you are capable of. We went into this “AGT” competition wondering if we had potential as a group, and through this experience we have learned that we do. This experience has also connected us to people from all over the country as well as other parts of the world. And we have made some great friendships with other contestants that we hope to collaborate with in the future.
