Sources say Mooseheads close to deal with Olympiques

The Halifax Mooseheads are close to completing a trade with the Gatineau Olympiques to bring in some toughness.

According to sources, the deal would see rugged 19-year-old defenceman/forward Spencer Metcalfe on his way to Halifax along with 18-year-old forward Jordan Costello and 19-year-old goaltender Anthony Kimlin. The Herd could surrender as many as two late-round draft picks in return.

The six-foot-one, 186-pound Metcalfe had a goal, two assists and 50 penalty minutes in 25 games in 2008-09 and would be expected to skate a regular shift in Halifax this season.

Costello and Kimlin would need to win spots at camp.

Costello captained the Cornwall Thunder of the New Brunswick-P.E.I. major midget loop, recording 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 30 games. Kimlin would be one of 11 goalies coming to training camp. He played junior A in Ontario last season and had a 3.47 goals-against average in 32 starts.
