Being used as a guinea pig is usually a dangerous job, but in the case of Mary Edwards’ husband, it was a treat.
Edwards and her friend, Shannon Loeber, spent five years putting together an aphrodisiac cookbook, which they’ll be showcasing until Sunday at Taboo … The Naughty But Nice Sex Show in Vancouver.
The Wisewoman’s Cookery — something you’d expect to see in George Costanza’s kitchen — features recipes for meals, desserts, drinks and even lotions to stimulate more than just the taste buds.
They said the book weaves together their love of food, romantic dinners and, in Edwards’ case, folklore erotica.
“We reinvented old recipes,” said Edwards, adding that she tested each on her husband. “He enjoyed it,” she said. “I think it’s been a nice little romantic time.”
Edwards and Loeber say they use ingredients like ginger, cinnamon and thyme, which are stimulating, and lavender, which is euphoric and relaxing.
Fruit, like strawberries, are a sensual and aromatic addition to desserts and drinks, and foods that are high in iron — like beets, provide energy.
Edwards and Loeber will be showcasing their recipes at the Taboo Show at the Vancouver Convention Centre until Sunday. The adults-only trade show features fashion shows, product demonstrations, seminars and workshops, and contests.
Exhibitors include body painters, pole and belly dancers, lingerie and sex toy vendors, and health-care practitioners.
