Chelsea hosts Tottenham in the second leg of the English Carabao Cup semifinals today at 2:40 p.m. ET at Stamford Bridge. Tottenham leads this matchup 1-0 after their first-leg victory back on Jan. 8.
Tottenham’s forward Harry Kane scored the lone goal of the contest which came on a penalty kick in the 26th minute.Spurs and Chelsea both play in the English Premier League and are right in the midst of qualifying for the Champions League.
Tottenham is 17-0-6 with 51 points and is third in the English Premier League. They trail Liverpool by nine points for the top spot.
Unfortunately for Spurs, they have been bitten by the injury bug this season. They will still be without Victor Wanyama in today’s contest. Wanyama suffered a knee injury back in November but is set to make his return this weekend in the English FA Cup. Kane suffered a torn ankle ligament on Jan. 14 against Manchester United, that will sideline Tottenham’s top scorer until March. That isn’t all for the Spurs; they will also be without Dele Alli due to a hamstring injury.
Chelsea currently holds the fourth spot in the English Premier League and trail Tottenham by just four points. They are 14-5-4 with 47 points this season.
The Blues are coming off a 2-0 loss to Arsenal this past Saturday and now lead them in the standings by just three points.
Chelsea just signed Argentina striker, Gonzalo Higuain, late Wednesday evening. He will be on loan from Juventus until the end of the season. Unfortunately for Chelsea, Higuain cannot participate in the second leg of the Carabao Cup due to the fact that he was signed after the midday deadline on Wednesday.
