For a show so steeped in New York City culture, the creators of “Gossip Girl” knew there was only one place to open the series’ fourth season: Paris.
“I think we all felt that a trip to Paris kind of was the ultimate expression of ‘Gossip Girl’ — the characters are so in love with fashion and architecture … lingerie, coffee, everything that Paris has to offer,” says series creator Stephanie Savage.
Paris already plays an integral role in the series “with Blair’s father living in Paris, Blair taking vacations [there],” Savage adds. It’s Blair and Serena who hit the City of Light in Season 4’s first two episodes, looking for love away from NYC — or simply fulfilling their love of the city’s designer boutiques — for the summer. “It felt like, this summer, I don’t just want to hear a bunch of pipe in the actors’ mouths about how much fun they had in Paris,” Savage says. “I really want to show the audience that.”
