Stanley Park cedars to be carved

Stanley Park’s loss became the Vancouver Aboriginal Community Policing Centre’s gain yesterday, when it welcomed three cedar trees knocked down during last winter’s windstorm.
The cedars, donated by the Vancouver Parks Board, were accepted at a blessing ceremony at Britannia Community Centre and will be carved by Aboriginal artists.
Women walked around the logs, brushing them with cedar boughs while singing a Squamish totem pole song.
Christine Germano, executive director of the Constant Arts Society, said the project will teach youth in the community about the art of carving.
