A Brooklyn hospital on the brink of declaring bankruptcy received a Christmas miracle last week in the form of $3.5 million in state funding that will keep its doors open through the beginning of March.

Interfaith Medical Center staff were preparing to submit their closure plan when they received word of the last-minute deal from the state Department of Health on Monday, a hospital spokesperson told DNAinfo.

Even with the reprieve, the future of the struggling hospitalis unclear, with no long-term plan on the table.

Interfaith serves the communities of Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights, where many patients are uninsured. As of August, when it previouslynarrowly averted being shut down, it was hemorrhaging money, losing more than $1.5 million a month thanks to 2009’s state cuts to Medicaid reimbursements.
