Tears rolled down Kevin Faulk’s face when the doctors told him he had torn his ACL. But he couldn’t stay sad for long — the Patriots captain still had obligations, even if they’re off the field.
His teammates and coaches hail him as being one of the hardest workers they’ve been around. It should be of no surprise, then, to find out the running back was one of the first players in Gillette Stadium yesterday morning — torn ACL and all.
“He’s a very dependable guy, professional, great teammate and a great team player,” coach Bill Belichick said. “Hopefully we’ll do what he would do, which is be positive, step up, take advantage of those opportunities as they fall and have a good week of preparation and be ready to go on Sunday.”
Faulk, who was injured Sunday, said he understands things just happen in life, and you have to adjust and move on.
“It might have taken a longer time when I was younger to get over it, but I’ve gotten a little older and understand life more,” Faulk said.
After the Laurence Maroney trade and now Faulk’s season-ending injury, the Pats are left with Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and BenJarvus Green-Ellis in the backfield.
Belichick was quick to say that there are no Kevin Faulk duplicates, and Taylor said the remaining runners will band together to fill in for the 12-year veteran.
