Suspect in Melvin shooting appears in court

Charles Belisle-Taylor, the man wanted for allegedly shooting Jimmy Melvin Jr. in December, made a brief court appearance in Halifax yesterday.

On the night of Dec. 4th, officers came running when they heard multiple gunshots behind an apartment building at 30 Ridge Valley Road. They found the victim, 26-year-old Melvin, in one of the apartments suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Jeremy Leblanc, 26, and Daniel Borden, 24, were arrested and charged in January. Police put out a warrant for the arrest of Belisle-Taylor, 23.

He was arrested by Toronto police on March 9th and was returned to Halifax on Wednesday.

In total, Belisle-Taylor faces a total of 16 charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and assaulting a police officer.

He will be back in court on April 9 for a show cause hearing.
