A shameless robber stole a man’s wallet earlier this month, then called him the next day and forced him to deposit checks into his bank account, according to police.

The ordeal started about 7 p.m. on Jan 14, when the armed robber approached the 30-year-old victim while he was walking along 188th Street in the Bronx, police said. The suspect demanded the victim’s money, debit card and personal information. The victim complied, and the suspect fled.

The next day, the suspect called the victim and demanded to see him. Fearing for his life, the victim complied, police said. After the two met, they drove together to New Jersey, where the suspect forced the victim to deposit forged checks into his bank account. The suspect then drove to another bank and withdrew the money. He released the victim unharmed.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5-foot-9 and weighing 135 pounds.
