T.O. lake views still up for grabs

But world is slowly finding out

One of the best ways to escape the frantic pace of today’s life is to retreat to water — to gaze at breathtaking lake views or walk along the shore and experience nature at its most beautiful, whatever the season. For many people, this involves travelling to a cottage — but what if you could have a lake as your neighbour all year long? Such is the lure of lakeside living in Toronto, where waterfront condos offer the opportunity to own a piece of paradise that is as convenient as it is mesmerizing.

It’s common to hear from purchasers of all ages about their dream to live near water. They talk about being able to come home from a hectic workday and look out over Lake Ontario, taking solace from the water when it’s glassy calm, and feeling connected with the earth in a primal way when choppy waves usher in a storm. Even on a dreary February day, you can watch the antics of winter birds and the play of night lights on the water’s surface.

And I wonder, have you looked at Lake Ontario from Toronto’s waterfront lately? I mean, really looked? Because you truly have to see it to believe it. Often, people get caught up in busy lives that allow for work, commuting and little else. They tend to drive familiar routes, day in and day out, and may not take time to investigate the many interesting pockets of our fabulous city. Combine great water views and panoramas of the city skyline, and the effect is breathtaking. How many cities in the world offer both water and city views?

Remember, however, that our Toronto waterfront is finite in size. There can only be so many more opportunities to buy a new condominium suite in this area. In addition, prices for waterfront condos are still reasonable in Toronto, but as more international buyers discover our little real estate secret, that story is changing. Add proximity to fabulous shopping, entertainment venues, restaurants, and recreational outlets such as the Martin Goodman Trail, and the lifestyle is like the cottage and the city rolled into one.
