Somewhere, a “Hard Knocks” producer is crossing his fingers.
The Jets could be hard-pressed to keep their bevy of free agents, including star wide receivers Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes, leading head coach Rex Ryan to perhaps open the doors to another flamboyant playmaker — or two.
During “The T.Ocho Show” on the Versus Network last night, Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco told co-talent Terrell Owens he admired the Jets and their head coach. During a segment of the 30-minute show, Ochocinco talked openly about his desire to be in a situation and a setting like the Jets.
“The Jets will make it to the AFC championship game every year, based off of heart, will and the head coach that they have,” OchoCinco said.
Ochocinco has been a productive player for the Bengals since being their first round pick in 2001 but could well be on the chopping block in a few weeks with just one year left on his contract. With the Bengals perhaps ready for another roster shakeup after a disappointing season, Ochocinco might be lining up a move to the Jets either via a trade or as a free agent if there was a buyout.
Owens, who will soon be a free agent, hopped on the Jets’ bandwagon, saying it’s a team “players would love to play for.” Ochocinco raised the banter another level.
“I would do anything to play for someone like Rex Ryan,” Ochocinco said.
In his 10th year in the league, Ochocinco hauled in 67 catches for 831 yards and four touchdowns. He’d certainly be worth looking at if the Jets lose either Edwards or Holmes to free agency.
