‘Table of Friends’ celebrates 21 years of bringing Thanksgiving to Boston homeless

Boston’s political leaders and athletic champions joined forces Monday to once again bring a Thanksgiving feast to Boston’s homeless Monday.

For the past 21 years, the “Table of Friends” has provided a hot meal and forum for some of Boston’s most at-risk residents to break bread with city leaders.

Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner Bill Evans were among those who helped serve up more than 1,200 pounds of turkey, 1,000 poundsof stuffing, 40 gallons of gravy, 850 poundsof mashed potatoes, 500 poundsof carrots, 100 poundsof green beans, 115 dozen rolls and 10 gallons of cranberry sauce.

The food was donated byDelaware North’s Sportservice, which operates the arena’s food, beverage and retail services.

Put on by Garden Neighborhood Charities, the philanthropic arm of TD Garden, the meal marks the start of the organizations season of charitable giving.

Over the last two decades, Garden Neighborhood Charities has served more than 11,000 hot meals, donated more than $60,000 and helped hundreds to move beyond shelters into permanent housing through its support of Boston’s Housing First initiative via its event partners, Friends of Boston’s Homeless.
