The Tampa Bay Lightning organization is looking for a new person to fill their mascot’s costume after an incident with a Bruins fan last week.
The woman who played ThunderBug was recently let go, according to WTSP.
A spokeswoman for the organization said the Jan. 17 incident played a part in the decision to fire the woman.
The harassment took place during a game in Tampa Bay last week and video of it went viral.
A man in a Boston Bruins Stanley Cup shirt took exception to being the butt of ThunderBug’s joke.
A video of the incident posted on YouTube shows the Lightning mascot spraying the Bruins fan with aerosol string. The fan gets mad, chases after ThunderBug and pushes the mascot down.
Security and angry Tampa Bay fans immediately rush toward the man who is then led away from his seat, but not before he gets in ThunderBug’s face one last time.
A Facebook group titled “Save Tampa Bay Lightning’s ThunderBug’s Job” had nearly 750 members as of this afternoon.
