Taste Test: Crumbs’ cronut spinoff, the Crumbnut

Crumbnuts are $2.95 each at CRUMBS. Crumbnuts are $2.95 each at Crumbs.

Crumbs Bake Shop is getting in on the cronut trend with its own spinoff, the Crumbnut. Part doughnut, part croissant, the treat comes either plain with powdered sugar or filled with Bavarian cream.

We got our hands on some Crumbnuts, and here’s what some Metro staff members had to say about them:

“Because I enjoy pastries of all kind, this cronut is a winner in my book. I enjoyed the cream one more than the powdered one. I’ve had an actual cronut before and this has a similar texture and taste, but leans more toward the doughnut side of the pastry spectrum.” -Lenyon Whitaker, Multimedia Editor

“It was a little spongey and not like a croissant at all, but still tasty in its own right.” –Andrea Park, Web Writer

“This dessert bore no trace of its doughnut heritage, but was rather a dense, fried croissant filled with vague-tasting cream.” –Eva Kis, Web Editor

“It tasted like a deep fried croissant — a delicious heart attack in the making. It’s more like a dessert than a breakfast item.” –Dorothy Robinson, Managing Editor

“It kind of just tastes like a harder donut.”-Disgruntled anonymous Metro employee
