Teen charged in stabbing death

Detectives are still trying to figure out what led to a massive fight that killed a 17-year-old boy in the city’s north end early Saturday morning.

A violent fight that involved knives and bats broke out between two buildings at an apartment complex near 72 Street and 147 Avenue sometime around 2:40 a.m. Saturday morning, police said.

Police say three people were stabbed, including one who died of his injuries, a 17-year-old who friends have identified as Marlon Cutknife.

Cutknife was reportedly taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he later died.

Police say they were able to track down several suspects with the help of its K-9 unit after the fight, and six people have so far been taken into custody.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the homicide. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen can’t be named. The accused is facing charges of second-degree murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of an offensive weapon.

An autopsy is scheduled for today at 1 p.m.

The case is the city’s ninth homicide of the year.
