Teen’s murder case postponed

The case of a 17-year-old Middle Sackville boy charged with second-degree murder has been adjourned until Friday.

The teen, whose identity is protected under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was scheduled to appear in court yesterday morning for election and plea. According to Public Prosecution Services spokesperson Chris Hansen, a judge granted his lawyer’s request that the matter be postponed.

For now, the boy will remain in the mental health unit of the IWK Health Centre, where he been held since his arrest on Friday.

He was reportedly walking naked down the street when he was picked up by police early in the afternoon after officers discovered a body inside a home on Hewer Crescent.

RCMP have identified the victim as 49-year-old Joy Ann Wright of Middle Sackville. Investigators are not saying how she died, or what — if any — relationship she had with the accused.

Police spokeswoman Const. Tamu Bracken confirmed Sunday that a series of motor vehicle accidents that occurred in the area of Hewer Crescent were linked to the events at the murder scene, but would not say if the 17-year-old was behind the wheel of a car before his arrest.
